Cisco’s ThousandEyes internet monitoring unit has unveiled a groundbreaking suite of artificial intelligence capabilities designed to revolutionize the prediction and diagnosis of internet outages and disruptions. The new AI technology, named Digital Experience Assurance (DXA), aims to empower customers by automating the response to network quality issues, a significant advancement from the current monitoring-focused approach.
Dubbed the "Google Maps of the internet," ThousandEyes provides a comprehensive view of every user and application across any network. Founded 15 years ago, the company has heavily invested in AI development over the past several years. This latest AI-driven upgrade is set to enhance the platform’s ability to monitor and ensure network quality and resilience for its clients.
Joe Vaccaro, vice president and general manager of ThousandEyes, highlighted the transformative potential of DXA. "This technology allows us to not only resolve issues before they impact users but also leverage extensive data to predict and proactively address potential network problems," Vaccaro said in an exclusive interview with CNBC. "Digital Experience Assurance is a step towards a self-sustaining system that goes beyond traditional metrics and monitoring."
DXA's capabilities extend to correlating, analyzing, diagnosing, predicting, optimizing, and remediating network issues with minimal manual intervention. Powered by over 650 billion daily measurements collected globally, the platform promises unparalleled visibility into both internal environments and external networks, including on-premises and cloud systems. This builds on Cisco ThousandEyes’ existing Event Detection technology, which already significantly reduces the time required to identify and address disruptions.
Adding to the excitement, Vaccaro hinted at a forthcoming product that will generate AI-created scripts to report the status of global ISPs, public cloud services, edge networks, and application connections. This new feature, expected to launch soon, will further automate internet monitoring tasks traditionally handled by people, leveraging large language models akin to those used in generative AI systems like ChatGPT and Google Gemini.
The surge in AI-driven advancements follows the viral success of ChatGPT, which garnered 100 million users within months of its release by OpenAI. This trend has spurred numerous companies to innovate within the AI space, and Cisco’s ThousandEyes is poised to lead in the realm of network monitoring and digital experience management.
With these AI-powered enhancements, ThousandEyes is set to redefine how businesses ensure network reliability and performance, marking a significant leap towards a future where digital experiences are seamlessly managed and optimized.
