A recent report suggests that Android 15, the upcoming iteration of the world's most popular operating system for smartphones, might introduce a significant redesign to the volume panel. While the official launch of Android 15 is still a few months away, tantalizing leaks about its new features are already making waves.
One of the most exciting revelations revolves around the ability to archive apps in Android 15, a move aimed at optimizing storage space without the need for complete uninstallation. But that's not all – another leak hints at a long-awaited overhaul of the volume panel, aligning it with Google's acclaimed Material You design language.
According to a report by renowned tipster Mishaal Rahman, Android 15 could be set to elevate all facets of the smartphone experience to the Material You standards. Initially introduced in 2021 with Android 12, Material You has been gradually integrated into various apps and functionalities by Google. Now, it seems the volume panel is next in line for a stunning makeover.
The current volume panel already boasts some Material You elements, with a bottom sheet emerging upon pressing the volume button. However, the reported redesign promises to refine the user experience further. The sliders, traditionally thin, are set to undergo a makeover, appearing thicker and pill-shaped in the latest Android 15 Developer Preview 2 release.
But the enhancements don't stop there. The redesigned sliders will now encapsulate both the icon and the audio stream text, creating a more streamlined and intuitive interface. Additionally, a collapsible button will offer users the flexibility to condense the panel into a single row with a simple tap, optimizing screen real estate without compromising functionality.
Furthermore, a permanent audio output switcher icon will grace the revamped volume panel, ensuring seamless navigation between audio sources. Even when no external speakers are in use, the icon will remain visible, indicating that audio is playing through the device itself.
