X: Twitter's Bold Rebranding Journey Takes a Surprising Turn

Say hello to "X" on the App Store Unprecedented exception granted as Apple bends its rules

In an unprecedented move, Twitter, has undergone a significant transformation, culminating in a fresh identity - the enigmatic "X." This much-awaited change comes after weeks of intriguing developments, from alterations in social handles to interface branding and even a redirect on the web.

Last week, the tech world was amazed as Twitter unveiled its new "X" logo, ushering in a new era for the platform on both iOS and Android. The company bid farewell to its iconic bird logo and replaced it with the single-letter emblem, symbolizing a bold step towards change. However, the App Store listing still bore "Twitter," leaving many wondering why the transformation wasn't complete.

Unveiling the mystery behind this discrepancy, tech enthusiasts discovered that the App Store Connect, the portal where developers manage their apps, posed a hurdle. Attempting to name the app with just one character triggered an error, and thus Twitter's desired rebranding faced a seemingly insurmountable roadblock.

But lo and behold! Today, exciting news emerges as it appears that Apple has granted an extraordinary exception to Elon Musk's X Corp., the official owner of Twitter. The X app has been bestowed with the coveted single-letter name, a privilege rarely granted, as Apple typically adheres to stringent naming conventions.

Interestingly, the rebranding process was smoother on Android, where Twitter swiftly adopted the name "X" along with the new logo, paving the way for a seamless transition on this platform.

However, amidst the fervor surrounding Twitter's rebranding, another app previously using the name "X" faced a peculiar situation. To circumvent Apple's character limits, this app employed a sneaky workaround by incorporating the "X" along with another invisible character in its name. As a consequence of Twitter's official rebranding, this app opted for a voluntary name change, ensuring clear differentiation. The developers clarified that neither Twitter/X nor Apple had approached them regarding this matter.

Beyond the rebranding, X has been busy making strategic moves. The platform is in the process of renaming its subscription service, transitioning from "Twitter Blue" to "X Blue." With this service, users can upload up to three hours of video content, an extension from the previous two-hour limit set in May.

Moreover, X has taken significant steps to empower content creators worldwide. The platform expanded its ad revenue-sharing program, exemplifying its commitment to supporting creators. To be eligible for revenue sharing, creators must meet certain criteria, including verification status, a minimum of 500 followers, and a substantial total impression count from their posts over the past three months.

Twitter's transformation into "X" marks a remarkable chapter in the platform's evolution. Overcoming the hurdles of app store regulations and embracing a new identity, Twitter is poised to redefine its presence in the digital landscape. With the X app already making waves on Android and the unique exception granted by Apple, the future looks bright for this tech giant. As X expands its services, supports content creators, and ventures into uncharted territory, we eagerly anticipate the exciting innovations and developments.
