NFT Auction Ignites Dogwifhat Drama

Stirring discord between the Solana community and the proprietors of the original Shiba Inu behind the viral Dogwifhat
March 18, 2024

In the vibrant realm of meme coins, a rift has emerged, casting the Solana community against the proprietors of the real-world Shiba Inu that inspired the meteoric rise of the Dogwifhat (WIF) meme coin.

At the heart of the controversy lies an Ethereum NFT auction featuring the iconic image of Achi, the beloved dog behind the viral Dogwifhat meme.

Originating from a South Korean Instagram user who claims ownership of Achi, the auction aims to celebrate the canine's internet fame by auctioning the original photo that ignited the meme sensation.

Set to culminate on Monday, the auction has already garnered a remarkable bid of 50 ETH, exceeding $182,000.

However, discord ensued when Achi's owners chose to collaborate with Feisty DAO, an online community experienced in acquiring and fractionating Shiba Inu-themed NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. This decision incited discontent among members of the WIF community and Solana enthusiasts.

Expressing their dissatisfaction, many lamented the absence of collaboration between Achi's parents and the WIF team on Solana for the NFT drop.

In response to mounting criticism, Achi's owners issued a public statement, urging supporters to refrain from blame and instead extend encouragement.

Interestingly, prior attempts to engage with the Solana community had soured, particularly with the emergence of ACHI, a meme coin endorsed by Achi's parents but later abandoned by its creators.

Amidst the unfolding drama, it's revealed that little effort was made by the WIF community to establish contact with Achi's family until recently, highlighting a communication gap between meme coin enthusiasts and the real-world inspirations behind their tokens.

Despite the lack of outreach, there's a glimmer of hope for reconciliation. Path, the Feisty DAO member overseeing the NFT auction, expressed willingness to remint the NFT on Solana if there's interest from the community. However, attempts to engage the WIF community in this endeavor yielded no positive response, underscoring the need for better communication and collaboration in the meme coin ecosystem.
